Milford School District is committed to teachingstudents to read and write. Reading is often considered one of the mostvaluable tools students learn as they grow, progress, and build the foundationfor lifelong learning. Our reading instruction focuses on phonologicalawareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students receiveexposure to a range of text types and tasks in order to develop these skillsand foster their love of reading. As students refine their skills as readersthey progress into the area of writing. The ability to write well is criticalto our students as they advance into their post-secondary and career options.Student writing includes the opportunity to demonstrate increasingsophistication in all aspects of language and vocabulary use as they apply whatthey have learned. We believe the ability to read and write not only preparesour students to be successful throughout the rest of their educational career, but also helps develop them as responsible citizens in our society.
